Hestra Army Leather Heli Ski Jr Mitt

In Hestra's words, Army Leather is "a specially treated goat leather that withstands tough, outdoor conditions," and it was "originally used to make gloves for military purposes." On this mitt it covers the palm. The backhand fabric is HESTRA Triton recycled polyamide.

The lining is Bemberg polyester and removable, with a replacement-liner style number of its own (34051). Everything else is at the wrist. A wrist strap with a Velcro closure cinches the fit. The snow lock adds an inner cuff that closes around the wrist. Handcuffs are wrist leashes, so a mitt that comes off stays attached to the wrist.

Keeping four fingers together lets them share heat, and that is the point of a mitt. The thumb sits in its own compartment next to them. G-Loft insulation and the lining add to that shared warmth. The trade is finger movement: in one compartment, the four fingers move together instead of one at a time.

Hestra lists the Triton backhand as windproof and breathable. Army Leather, Hestra says, has structural properties that provide "effective protection against moisture."

Hestra junior sizes are numeric. This mitt comes in sizes 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and every color is offered in all five.

Kids whose hands get cold and who are happy to give up some finger movement for shared warmth. It is part of Hestra's Junior collection, which Hestra describes as "gloves and mittens for all ages, from infants to young teenagers."
