PTO Verdict

“Navigator geometry for the skin track: set back, tapered and rated half a point stiffer than the one-piece board.”

Best for: Riders who already handle powder and trees and want a powder-first split for sidecountry laps and resort uphill routes where they are allowed, with skins and clips supplied. CAPiTA's weight table covers about 130 to 220+ lb across the 155 to 164.

Not for: Lift-only riders: the solid Navigator shares the waist, taper and sidecut radii without split hardware. Park, jib and switch riders, because the board is directional, set back and tapered. Riders who put uphill weight first, who should look at CAPiTA's lightweight-focused Mega Split. Riders under about 130 lb or needing a wide board; women's 147 and 151 cm sizes are the Navigator Split WMN. And anyone heading into avalanche terrain without avalanche training, rescue gear and partners.

Description

The CAPiTA Navigator Split is a directional powder splitboard for sidecountry laps and resort skin tracks where uphill travel is allowed. It runs Resort V2 Directional hybrid camber with Flat Kick Tech, a Directional 6 flex on CAPiTA's own scale, and four lengths from 155 to 164 cm with waists of 25.2 to 26.4 cm.

The split-specific core is the 3D Ascend 2, wrapped in triaxial glass top and bottom (HolySheet TRI/TRI) with a pair of 30 mm Technora Flax strips, and the base is CAPiTA's sintered HyperDrive, which wants regular wax. In the box: Union Expedition Skins by Montana plus Union Pro clips and hooks. Bindings are a separate purchase.

This is a split for riders already at home in powder and trees who plan to earn some of their turns. Skip it if you never leave the lifts, since the one-piece Navigator shares its widths and sidecut radii, or if you live in the park or ride switch. If the lowest weight on the skin track is the goal, CAPiTA built its Mega Split for that job. The women's lengths, 147 and 151 cm, are a separate listing, the Navigator Split WMN. Touring gear never stands in for avalanche education, rescue equipment and a capable partner.

Start sizing with CAPiTA's weight bands, from 130 lb at the bottom of the 155 to 220+ lb at the top of the 164; there is no wide model. We help pick the length, check boot overhang across the 25.2-26.4 cm waist and fit a separate splitboard binding to your boots; a technician confirms the binding interface and checks the skins and clips.

The take

“Navigator geometry for the skin track: set back, tapered and rated half a point stiffer than the one-piece board.”

The CAPiTA Navigator Split is CAPiTA's Navigator built as a splitboard for touring. At 155 to 164 cm it keeps the solid board's waist widths, taper, sidecut radii and reference stance, and CAPiTA gives it the label Powder Seeker, where the solid Navigator reads Powder / Resort. CAPiTA's own pitch is plain: sidecountry missions and terrain out of bounds, or a skin up a resort line where uphill travel is allowed.

The Navigator Split's shape explains the descent. A 0.8 in setback and 11.6 to 13.9 mm of taper let the narrower tail sink while the wider nose stays up, so you spend less effort leaning back in deep snow. The Parabolic sidecut, which CAPiTA lists for the two Navigators only, prints a smaller middle value in each radius set, 8.1 / 7.0 / 8.1 m on the 158. CAPiTA says the shape turns more quickly in the center, which suits trees and tight powder lines.

Resort V2 Directional camber is the Navigator Split's uphill argument. Camber runs through the inserts, and CAPiTA links that camber underfoot to controlled ascents; the same platform is what holds an edge when the exit run turns firm. Reverse camber and Flat Kick arcs at each end lift the contact points for float.

Against the solid Navigator, the split is the firmer build on CAPiTA's flex numbers: Directional 6 with HolySheet TRI/TRI glass, where the solid board is Directional 5.5 with TRI/BI and a Hover Core. The split uses CAPiTA's 3D Ascend 2 Split Core and two 30 mm Technora Flax Boosters. The solid board adds a 167, and its effective edge runs 3 to 13 mm shorter at the shared lengths.

The Mega Split is the other way to go. CAPiTA builds it as its lightweight-first split, with a 3D Ascend 1 core, Pure MegaCarbon glass, a MegaLite topsheet and a MegaDrive XT base, rated Directional 7. It also uses a Death Grip progressive sidecut and no taper. CAPiTA publishes no weight for either board. Choose the Mega Split when grams on the climb matter most; choose the Navigator Split when you want the solid Navigator's shape under you once the skins come off.

Sizing the Navigator Split follows CAPiTA's weight table: 130-190 lb on the 155, 150-200 on the 158, 160-210 on the 161 and 170-220+ on the 164. There is no wide size, so boots are checked against the 25.2 to 26.4 cm waist. CAPiTA packs Union Expedition skins and Union Pro clips and hooks with the board; a splitboard binding is not included, and CAPiTA names no binding pairing. Avalanche training, rescue gear and partners come before any of it.

Bindings we'd pair with it

Mount point: Set back 0.8 in; reference stance 53.3 cm / 21 in on the 155, 55.9 cm / 22 in on the 158 and 58.4 cm / 23 in on the 161 and 164. Our pick: No official pairing - CAPiTA includes skins and clips, not bindings.

CAPiTA does not print the binding interface for this board in its 26/27 catalog. Fit of any splitboard binding is never assumed; our technician confirms the binding interface, skins and clips at fitting.

    Common Questions

CAPiTA Navigator Split vs Mega Split: which should I get?
The CAPiTA Navigator Split is the powder-first choice, with a Parabolic sidecut, a tail 11.6-13.9 mm narrower than the nose and a Directional 6 flex. The Mega Split is CAPiTA's lightweight-first split, rated Directional 7 and built on a 3D Ascend 1 core with Pure MegaCarbon glass, plus a Death Grip sidecut and no taper. Neither board has a published weight.
CAPiTA Navigator Split vs the solid Navigator: what is different?
The CAPiTA Navigator Split shares the solid Navigator's waist widths, taper and sidecut radii at 155 to 164 cm. The split is rated Directional 6 with HolySheet TRI/TRI glass and a 3D Ascend 2 Split Core, against 5.5, TRI/BI and a Hover Core on the solid board. The solid Navigator also comes in a 167.
What size CAPiTA Navigator Split should I get?
Size the CAPiTA Navigator Split by weight first. CAPiTA lists 130-190 lb for the 155, 150-200 lb for the 158, 160-210 lb for the 161 and 170-220+ lb for the 164. With no wide size on offer, we check your boots against its 25.2-26.4 cm waist width.
Is the CAPiTA Navigator Split good for beginners?
The CAPiTA Navigator Split is for riders who already handle powder and trees, not first-season snowboarders. CAPiTA rates it Directional 6 and labels it Powder Seeker. New splitboarders also need avalanche training, rescue gear and partners before the board matters.
What comes with the CAPiTA Navigator Split, and which bindings fit?
The CAPiTA Navigator Split comes with Union Expedition Skins by Montana and Union Pro clips and hooks; bindings are not included. CAPiTA does not print the binding interface in its 26/27 catalog, so splitboard binding fit is never assumed. Our technician confirms it at fitting.
