This is 686's no-nonsense all-day mitt. The shell is a 3-layer softshell with a DWR finish, and inside sits a GORE-TEX waterproof/breathable insert — a separate membrane, not just a coating — so your hands stay dry even when the softshell gets soaked. Insulation is Light Fill: 360g polyfill on the back, 120g on the palm. That's a warm mitt for cold days, not a liner mitt for spring slush. The DuraGrain synthetic leather palm holds up to pole straps and lift grips. Under-cuff design means it tucks neatly under your jacket sleeve with an adjustable velcro wrist closure — no bulk, no gap. The Soundtouch thumb lets you check your phone without pulling it off, and the oversized Secure Strap wrist leash catches it if you do.
Skip this if you run warm or ski mostly spring conditions — the 360g back insulation is built for genuine cold, not shoulder-season days. Also skip it if you prefer a gauntlet-over-cuff fit; this one sits under the sleeve by design.
