Why we carry Nitro.

Founded

1990

Origin

Seattle, WA

Ownership

Rider-owned

Ecosystem

Boards, boots, bindings

Nitro has been making snowboards since 1990. Founded in Seattle by Tommy Delago and a crew of riders who wanted to build boards their way, it's one of the few brands that's stayed rider-owned the entire time. No corporate parent. No private equity. Just a snowboard company run by people who actually ride.

We carry Nitro because they build honest gear. The Team board is one of the best all-mountain freestyle decks in the industry at its price — full camber, Railkiller edges, sintered base, and a flex that works from park laps to powder days. Their construction punches above its weight class. When a customer asks us for a do-everything board that won't fall apart mid-season, the Team is one of the first boards we pull off the wall.

Nitro also makes boots and bindings, which matters if you want a matched setup without overthinking compatibility. Their Prime line gives beginners a real board — not a department store plank — at a price that makes sense. And the Squash is the kind of shape-shifted fun board that gets people stoked on days when the snow is anything but perfect.

FAQ

About Nitro

Is Nitro a good snowboard brand?

Nitro has been building snowboards since 1990 and is one of the few remaining rider-owned brands in the industry. Their boards are known for solid construction, honest pricing, and features like Railkiller edges and sintered bases on mid-range models where competitors often cut corners. The Team board in particular is consistently rated as one of the best all-mountain freestyle boards at its price point.

Are you an authorized Nitro dealer?

Yes. PTO Ski & Snowboard is an authorized Nitro dealer serving the Portland, OR metro area. Every board, boot, and binding we sell comes with the full manufacturer warranty and is sourced directly through Nitro's US distribution.

What Nitro snowboard should I get as a beginner?

The Nitro Prime line is purpose-built for beginners — forgiving flex, durable construction, and a price that makes sense for your first real board. If you're a woman, the Mystique or Lectra offer similar approachability with women's-specific sizing. Come in or call 971-263-2916 and we'll match you to the right size and model.

What makes Nitro different from Burton or Capita?

Nitro is rider-owned — no corporate parent company. They make boards, boots, and bindings, so you can build a complete matched setup. Compared to Burton, Nitro typically offers similar or better construction features at a lower price point. Compared to Capita, Nitro has a broader lineup from true beginner boards to expert freeride, plus their own boot and binding ecosystem.

Does Nitro make wide snowboards?

Yes. The Nitro Magnum is specifically engineered for riders with larger boot sizes (typically US 11+). It's a dedicated wide platform — not just a stretched regular board — with adjusted sidecut and flex for proper edge-to-edge performance. Several other models also come in wide (W) sizing.

How do I size a Nitro snowboard?

Nitro sizing depends on your weight, boot size, and riding style more than height alone. We recommend using our in-store sizing process — bring your boots if you have them, or we'll measure your feet. Call 971-263-2916 or visit us in Beaverton for a proper fit.
