POC Obex Contour Ski Helmet

Obex family · 26/27

MIPSPOC logo

Technology

Mips Evolve

An integrated low-friction layer inside the helmet that lets it move a few millimeters on an angled impact, designed to help redirect rotational force away from your head.

Polycarbonate Shell

A single-material polycarbonate shell over an EPS liner — a lighter, simpler build than the dual-material Obex MIPS.

360° Fit Dial

A dial-adjustable cradle that tightens evenly around the head, so fit is set with a single twist and holds through the day.

POC Aid Communication Headset Compatible

Built to accept the POC Aid Communication Headset, so you can add on-mountain comms later without buying a new helmet.

Features

  • ·Value entry to the Obex line at 480g in M/L
  • ·Compatible with the POC Aid Communication Headset
  • ·Ventilation channels and goggle chimneys to cut fogging
  • ·360° dial for a fast, dialed fit
  • ·Detachable ear pads and a goggle clip
  • ·Three sizes (XS/S–XL/XXL)

Start with what POC left out, because that is the whole pitch of the Contour. Where the rest of the Obex line runs a dual-material shell — a polycarbonate body with a harder ABS top section — the Contour is single-material polycarbonate. That is a lighter, simpler build, and it is why this is the cheapest way into the Obex line. Polycarbonate is a proven helmet-shell material; the dual-material versions add ABS mainly for abrasion resistance on the crown, not a different safety class. Every Obex here certifies to the same EN 1077 Class B and ASTM F2040 standard.

Underneath sits a standard EPS liner with Mips Evolve, POC’s integrated low-friction layer that lets the shell shift a few millimeters on an angled hit to help manage rotational force. The rest is straightforward all-mountain kit: ventilation channels rather than the glove-friendly sliding covers of the pricier Obex helmets, goggle chimneys to cut fogging, a 360° dial, detachable ear pads, and a goggle clip. The one feature that punches above the price is comms — the Contour is wired to accept the POC Aid Communication Headset, so audio becomes an upgrade you add rather than a helmet you replace.

Within the Obex line the Contour is the value floor. Step up to the Obex MIPS for the dual-material shell and glove-friendly sliding vents; step further to the Obex Contour Communication for the JBL-powered headset built in from the start, or the Obex Connect for the Harman Kardon Mesh intercom, RECCO, and aramid reinforcement at flagship price. Buy the Contour if you want a light, well-vented POC lid at a sensible price and the option — not the obligation — to add comms later. There is no RECCO or NFC here, so anyone heading into avalanche terrain should look at the BC helmets instead.

Strengths

  • +Light at 480g in M/L, well-vented for full resort days
  • +Mips Evolve rotational protection and a 360° dial fit
  • +Compatible with the POC Aid Communication Headset
  • +Lower price than the rest of the Obex line

Best For

All-mountain skiers who want a light, well-vented POC lid at a sensible price, with the option to add a comms headset later.

Limitations

  • Single-material shell — not the dual-material build of the Obex MIPS
  • Ventilation channels rather than the glove-friendly sliding vents of the Obex MIPS
  • No RECCO reflector or NFC chip — not a backcountry-rescue helmet

Not For

Skiers who want the tougher dual-material shell and sliding vents of the Obex MIPS, or a backcountry RECCO reflector.

Common Questions

How is the Obex Contour different from the Obex MIPS?
The Contour uses a single-material polycarbonate shell and ventilation channels, while the Obex MIPS has a dual-material shell and glove-friendly sliding vents. Both run Mips Evolve and share the same certification.
Can I add a communication headset to the Obex Contour?
Yes. It is built to work with the POC Aid Communication Headset, so you can add on-mountain comms later without buying a new helmet.
How much does the POC Obex Contour weigh?
The verified weight is 480g in M/L. POC has not published confirmed weights for the XS/S and XL/XXL sizes.
Does the POC Obex Contour have MIPS?
Yes. It runs Mips Evolve, POC’s integrated low-friction layer that lets the shell shift a few millimeters on an angled impact to help manage rotational force — the same rotational-protection system used across the Obex line.
Is the POC Obex Contour good for backcountry skiing?
It is built for the resort. There is no RECCO reflector or NFC medical chip, so it lacks the rescue hardware for avalanche terrain. For touring and the backcountry, look at POC’s BC helmets like the Fornix BC or Auric Cut BC, which add a RECCO reflector.
