The Grom Disc is Burton's purpose-built entry-level snowboard binding for kids who are still figuring out the basics. It runs a soft flex — rated around a 3 out of 10 — which means the binding forgives small mistakes in body position rather than punishing them, and lets the board flex naturally underfoot so a kid actually feels what the snow is doing. The single-component polycarbonate highback and baseplate keep the whole thing light without sacrificing durability; these will take the falls without cracking. Entry is a single oversized ankle strap with Burton's Smack-It ratchet buckle — one strap, one buckle, built big enough that small, mittened hands can actually work it. That's the whole point: the kid buckles in themselves with that one strap, instead of standing there freezing while a parent fumbles with it. The Disc baseplate is compatible with standard 4x4, 3D hole patterns, and the Burton Channel system, so it fits the vast majority of kids' snowboards out there.
These are for beginner kids, pure and simple — roughly boot sizes US 1K–3K in the Grom sizing (the Mini Grom steps down from there for toddler sizes US 7C–13C). If your kid is already linking turns confidently and pushing into the park or steeper groomers with control, they've outgrown this binding's soft flex and single-strap simplicity; look at the Burton Smalls or the Progression series for more response and adjustability as they level up. These are also not suitable for adults or teens — the sizing and geometry are built specifically for small feet. And if you're shopping for a Burton Step On Grom, that's an entirely separate binding that requires compatible Burton Step On boots with toe and heel cleats — this Grom Disc is a standard strap binding and works with any regular kids' snowboard boot.
