Rome puts the Katana name on several bindings that ride differently, so pin down which one this is. The Katana AW Pro FASE is the fast-entry, carbon-baseplate model: you step in from the back, and the baseplate underfoot is carbon-filled nylon. It is the rear-entry, carbon build — separate from the glass-baseplate base FASE, from Rome's two-strap Katana AW, and from the stiffer FullWrap Katana FW.
What the Pro adds over the rest of the FASE line is the baseplate. Rome fills the Pro's with 30% carbon; the base FASE uses glass, and Rome marks the Pro's flex a step higher — a catalog flex of 7 against the base FASE's 6. Carbon stiffens the platform, so power reaches the edge more directly and the binding feels more responsive. That extra stiffness is the whole reason to reach for the Pro rather than the base FASE.
Under the carbon, the chassis is still AsymWrap — a heelhoop that meets the baseplate at three points, which Rome tunes for a surfy, board-feel-forward ride that keeps edge-to-edge drive. The tuning runs deep for a fast-entry binding: PivotMount FASE gives four ankle-strap positions per side, sixteen combinations, on top of an adjustable baseplate. Set the strap higher for lock-in, lower for a looser feel. Rome rates the Katana family's adjustability near the top of its range.
Two siblings pull riders off the Pro. If you don't specifically want the carbon, the base FASE is the same binding underneath — same AsymWrap chassis, same OmniFlex and ProGrip straps, same sixteen-position PivotMount FASE, same rear entry — with a glass baseplate and a softer flex. And if you ride hard and want the most support and drive, the FullWrap Katana FW meets the heelhoop at four points instead of three, which is stiffer and more supportive than this surfier build.

Technology
Carbon-filled baseplate (30% carbon / 70% nylon)
The Pro's headline part, and the only hardware that separates it from the base FASE. Rome fills the baseplate with 30% carbon where the base Katana AW FASE uses 30% glass. Carbon stiffens the platform for more direct power to the edge — Rome positions it for all-terrain riding and quick reactions.
FASE (Fast Entry System)
Rome's rear-entry system: step in from the back and the highback closes as the boot enters, so the ankle and toe straps stay pre-set between runs. Rome calls the Katana AW FASE family its gold standard of fast-entry bindings. It is still a real strap binding, not a step-in plate.
AsymWrap platform
Rome's surfy-yet-responsive chassis: the heelhoop meets the baseplate at three points, which Rome builds for board feel and tweakability without giving up edge-to-edge response. Three points sits between the softer two-point HeelWrap and the stiffer four-point FullWrap — connection count is what drives support.
PivotMount FASE
The Katana family adjustability adapted for fast entry: four ankle-strap positions per side, which Rome counts as sixteen combinations, on top of an adjustable baseplate. Set the strap higher for a locked-in, powerful feel or lower for a surfier one. (The two-strap Katana AW uses standard PivotMount at 64 combinations instead.)
OmniFlex ankle + ProGrip toe straps
The current Katana-family strap package, shared with the base FASE: the OmniFlex ankle strap blends torsional flex with edge-to-edge power, and the ProGrip toe strap holds the boot locked in.
