Union builds the Ultra as its freestyle-first two-strap binding, and the brand's own scorecard is the clearest way to place it: Freestyle 9/10, All Mountain 8/10, Freeride 7/10. Those are Union's published numbers, not ours. Read together, the shape is a park binding with genuine all-mountain range — happiest on jumps and side hits, but not stuck there. The flex sits at 6/10 on Union's own scale, honestly mid: more supportive than a pure park noodle, softer than a freeride plank.
That feel is built, not marketed. The chassis pairs an S11 Duraflex ST baseplate with an asymmetric Mini Disk, a minimal-footprint disk that keeps less hardware under your boot so the board can flex more naturally underfoot — the surfy character freestyle riders look for. On top sits Union's Molecular Bushing with a TPE outsole, a suspension layer between strap and board that cushions landings and takes the edge off chatter. Union markets this as comfort, and comfort is the honest word: it is a feel, not injury protection. An all-new S25 Duraflex ST highback and an integrated 2-stage FLAD set the drive and let you tune forward lean.
Where does it land in Union's line? If your days are mostly pointing downhill fast, the Ultra is not the tool — Union rates it Freeride 7/10, while the Falcor, its freeride flagship, scores 10/10 on a forged-carbon chassis at 1.80 kg a pair. Go the other way and the Strata is Union's softer, more park-dedicated binding: it matches the Ultra's Freestyle 9 but gives up all-mountain range and weighs 1.84 kg a pair. The Ultra splits the difference and comes in the lightest of the three at 1.75 kg per pair. Note that there is also a separate women's Ultra on its own spec run; this review covers the men's.
Two things to settle before you buy. Mounting first: the Ultra rides on Union's Mini Disk, which fits boards with a 4x2 insert pattern or a Burton Channel. On a 4x4-only or Burton 3D three-hole board it physically will not mount, so confirm your board's insert pattern first. Sizing second: it follows your boot, not your weight, and Union offers S, M and L across all four colorways — but Union does not publish the boot-size ranges for those sizes, so confirm the fit with us rather than guessing. We have not ridden the 26/27 Ultra; this is read off Union's own catalog and order sheet.

Technology
Asymmetrical Mini Disk Baseplate (S11 Duraflex ST)
A minimal-footprint asymmetric disk on a Duraflex baseplate. Less disk under the boot lets the board flex more naturally underfoot for the surfier, more playful feel freestyle riders look for — the trade-off against the drive and damping a full-size disk gives.
Union Exclusive Bushing (Molecular Bushing w/ TPE Outsole)
A next-generation bushing that sits between the strap-and-baseplate and the board as a suspension layer. It flexes and rebounds underfoot to cushion landings and let the board's own flex come through — a comfort-and-feel claim, not injury protection.
All-New Highback (S25 Duraflex ST)
A new-for-26/27 Duraflex highback. It sets the drive and support you feel through the back of the boot; paired with the softer mid-flex chassis it aims for a responsive-but-forgiving freestyle feel rather than a stiff freeride drive.
Integrated 2-Stage FLAD + Magnesium S1 ratchets
A new integrated two-stage forward-lean adjuster with magnesium ratchets on a steel base. Tool-light lean tuning plus durable, reasonably light hardware typical of a mid-tier freestyle binding.

Not For
Hard-charging freeride and big-mountain riders who want a stiff, maximally responsive binding — the Ultra is mid-flex and Union rates it Freeride 7/10, below the Falcor (10/10 freeride at 1.80 kg a pair) and the Neo. Also not for dedicated jibbers after the very softest pure-park feel — that is Union's Strata. And not for anyone whose board takes only a 4x4 or Burton 3D pattern: the Mini Disk fits 4x2 and Burton Channel only, and will not mount.

- What is the difference between the Union Ultra and the women's Ultra?
- They are separate bindings on separate spec runs. This page covers the men's Ultra (Freestyle 9, Mini Disk, 1.75 kg a pair); the women's Ultra is lighter at 1.64 kg a pair and built on its own chassis. Order the one that matches you and we will confirm the size.
- Will the Union Ultra fit my board?
- The Ultra mounts on Union's asymmetric Mini Disk, which fits boards cut for a 4x2 insert pattern or a Burton Channel (EST). It does not fit a Burton 3D three-hole board or a 4x4-only pattern — on those it will not physically mount. Unsure what your board uses? Send us the board and we will check.

- No. A snowboard binding has no DIN and no release mechanism — it holds your boot to the board. The Ultra's specs describe flex, feel and response, not injury protection.
