Union badges the Strata "the #1 men's park and freestyle binding," and for once the marketing lines up with the scorecard where it matters: freestyle is the Strata's top mark, sitting well above its all-mountain and freeride scores. That is the shape of a specialist, not an all-rounder. The flex reads soft-to-mid on Union's own scale, and the whole chassis is tuned to press and pop, to butter and jib, rather than to drive an edge hard. Ride park first and want a forgiving, surfy feel underfoot, and the numbers point straight at it.
That surfy character is built, not marketed. The baseplate and highback are Union's softer S6 and S10 Duraflex ST nylon — a more forgiving grade than the stiffer parts on the all-mountain Force — so the binding gives underfoot instead of snapping back. Under the boot sits the OTE Fused Vaporlite bushing, the shock-absorbing layer Union highlights: it soaks up landings and damps chatter, and it is a feel feature, not a safety device. The reduced-footprint Mini Disk finishes the recipe, leaving more of the board free to flex so the deck feels alive. Canting is built in, and setup runs on the EXO Quick-Lock straps.
None of that makes the Strata a charger, and its own numbers say so. If you want one binding to drive the whole hill, the stiffer Force is the all-mountain pick — flex 7 where the Strata is soft, and heavier at 2.20 kg a pair against the Strata's 1.84. If your days run steep and fast, the Falcor is Union's freeride tool at 10/10 freeride. And if you are shopping the women's line, the Legacy is the Strata's direct counterpart — the same freestyle-first Mini Disk build at 1.75 kg a pair. The Strata sits where Union put it: soft, surfy and park-first.
Two things to get right before you buy. First, mounting: the Mini Disk fits 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only. It is not listed for 4x4, and it will not mount a Burton 3D board — on a 4x4-only deck it physically will not go on, so check your board's insert pattern first. Second, sizing follows your boot, not your weight; the Strata comes in S, M and L only, with no XL, so it tops out around a US men's 13 boot. We have not ridden the 26/27 Strata ourselves — this is read off Union's catalog — but it is a long-running park binding, and everything here is Union's own published spec.

Technology
Mini Disk
Union's reduced-footprint mounting disk, compatible with 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only — not 4x4, not 3D. The smaller footprint leaves more of the baseplate free to flex with the board, which is where the surfy, buttery board-feel comes from rather than the drive and damping a full-size disk gives.
OTE Fused Vaporlite 2.0 bushing
The fused bushing and canting layer between the boot and the baseplate. It absorbs impact from landings and soaks up chatter — the shock absorption Union highlights. It is a feel feature, not a safety device.
S6 / S10 Duraflex ST chassis
Softer Duraflex ST nylon in the baseplate (S6) and highback (S10) than the stiffer parts on the all-mountain Force. It keeps the flex soft and forgiving for presses, butters and jibs rather than hard-charging response.
Forma Hybrid ankle strap w/ Memory Core
A molded ankle strap with a memory-foam core that wraps the boot for even, forgiving pressure and heel hold. A fit-and-feel feature, paired with the EXO Quick-Lock strap adjustment.

- How is the Union Strata different from the Ultra and the Contact?
- All three ride on Union's Mini Disk. The Ultra is a stiffer, more performance-oriented freestyle binding that Union also scores 9/10 freestyle, at 1.75 kg a pair; the Contact is a softer, more entry-level surfy option below the Strata, at 1.78 kg a pair. The Strata sits between them as Union's #1 men's park pick.
- Will the Union Strata fit my board?
- The Mini Disk mounts on 4x2 and Burton Channel (EST) boards. It is not listed for 4x4, and it will not fit Burton's older 3D three-hole pattern — on a 4x4-only or 3D board it physically will not mount. If you are unsure what your board uses, send us the model and we will check.
- What size Union Strata should I order?
- Size follows your boot, not your weight. Union's chart runs S for about US men's 5.5–7.5, M for 8–10, and L for 10.5–13. The Strata has no XL, so it tops out around a US men's 13 boot. Tell us your boot size and we will confirm the fit.
- Does the Strata have a release like a ski binding?
- No. A snowboard binding has no DIN and no release mechanism — it holds your boot to the board. Its specs describe feel and response, not protection.
