Union's Ranger is a new-for-26/27 youth binding, and Union's own scorecard frames it plainly: all-mountain 8, its highest axis, with freestyle 5 and freeride 6 underneath. The flex reads 5 of 10 on Union's scale — medium-soft, not stiff. That is a progression binding, built to stay forgiving and cover a bit of everything while a young rider levels up, rather than to drive hardpack or hold a fast line.
The medium-soft feel is built into the chassis, not the marketing copy. The Ranger rides a Mini Disk over an S6 Duraflex baseplate: the small disk footprint lets more of the board flex naturally underfoot and keeps the pair weight to 1.70 kg — light for a binding carrying a metal heelcup, aluminum ratchets and Grade 8.8 steel hardware. The Exoframe 3.0 ankle strap wraps and holds the boot while the TS 2.1 UltraGrip toe strap caps over and pulls it back into the heelcup. Canting is built in, and a Cam-Lock forward-lean adjuster sets the highback from upright to more driving as the rider progresses.
Two Union bindings bracket it. Below sits the Cadet — a Universal V2 Disk, lighter at 1.47 kg a pair and cut for smaller, younger feet — which fits and rides the youngest first-timers better, with the Cadet One smaller still. Above it, once a rider's boot outgrows the M size, is an adult entry binding such as the STR or Flite Pro: the Ranger's size run cannot follow a boot past M. The Ranger is the middle step — for a kid past the smallest bindings but not yet in adult boots.
Two things to get right before you buy. First, mounting: the Mini Disk fits 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only — not the 4x4 pattern — so on a board drilled 4x4-only it will not physically bolt on. Second, size follows the child's boot, not age or weight; the Ranger comes in S, about US Kids 3K–5.5K, and M, US Kids 5.5K+ up to about US men's 7.5, with no larger size above it. We have not ridden the 26/27 Ranger ourselves — this is read off Union's catalog — and as a brand-new model it has no independent ride reviews yet, so everything here is Union's own published spec.

Technology
Mini Disk baseplate (S6 Duraflex)
A small-footprint mounting disk on an S6 Duraflex baseplate. The compact disk lets more of the board flex naturally under the binding and helps keep the pair weight to 1.70 kg. It mounts on 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only — not the 4x4 pattern.
Exoframe 3.0 ankle strap + TS 2.1 UltraGrip toe strap
Union's current-generation youth straps. The ankle strap wraps and holds the boot; the TS 2.1 toe strap caps over the toe and pulls the boot back into the heelcup for a secure connection to the board.
Canting + Cam-Lock forward lean
A canted footbed angles the stance toward a natural knee position, and the Cam-Lock adjuster sets highback forward lean from upright to more driving as a young rider progresses.
Metal heelcup, ratchets and hardware
An extruded 3D aluminum heelcup, aluminum S2 ratchets and Grade 8.8 steel hardware. Union positions the metal parts as the durability spine so a youth binding survives seasons of use and hand-me-downs. They drive fit and feel, not protection.

- Yes. Union lists the Ranger as a youth binding and offers it in S and M only, sized by the child's boot; it tops out around US men's 7.5. Union's Cadet sits one step below for smaller, younger feet, and a rider who outgrows the M moves up to an adult binding.
- Will the Union Ranger fit my board?
