Flex

5/10

Soft-to-mid — 5 on Union's own 1–10 scale

Flex ratings are the brand’s own and do not compare across brands.

Union badges the Legacy "Union's #1 women's park and freestyle binding." That is marketing; Union's own scorecard is the more useful read. Freestyle 9 is its top mark, while all-mountain sits at 7 and freeride at only 5, and the flex reads 5 out of 10 on Union's scale — soft-to-mid, not stiff. This is the women's Strata: a park-first binding, and its numbers say so plainly.

The soft, surfy character is built, not just claimed. The Mini Disk keeps its footprint small, so more of the board is free to flex underfoot — that is where the playful board-feel comes from, the opposite bias of a full-size disk tuned for drive and damping. Softer Duraflex ST nylon in the baseplate and highback keeps the flex forgiving for presses and jibs. Under the boot, Union's fused Vaporlite bushing soaks up landings and chatter — the "Shock-Absorbing Bushing Design" Union flags. Canting is built in, and setup runs on the Classic lean adjuster and EXO Quick-Lock straps.

None of that makes it an all-rounder, and the spec sheet is honest about it. If you want to ride the whole hill hard, the women's Juliet is the all-mountain pick — a full-size Camber Disk built to hold an edge, 1.69 kg a pair against the Legacy's 1.75. If you want that freestyle mark with a snappier, lighter feel, the Ultra Women's runs the same Mini Disk lighter at 1.64 kg a pair. And the Rosa is the entry option below the Legacy at 1.46 kg a pair. The Legacy is the soft, playful specialist among them, and it comes in under the men's Strata it mirrors — 1.75 kg against 1.84.

Two things to get right before you buy. First, mounting: the Mini Disk fits 4x2 and the Burton Channel. A 4x4-only board or Burton's old 3D three-hole pattern will not take it — the disk physically will not mount. Second, sizing follows your boot, not your weight; the women's run is S through L, with no XL on the women's chart, so a boot past the L range has no larger option. We have not ridden the 26/27 Legacy ourselves — this is read off Union's catalog — but it is a long-running women's park binding, and everything here is Union's own published spec.

Will it fit your board?

The mounting disk fits 2x4, EST/Channel insert patterns.

Technology

Mini Disk

Union's reduced-footprint mounting disk, compatible with 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only. The smaller footprint leaves more of the baseplate free to flex with the board, which is where the Legacy's surfy board-feel comes from — the opposite bias of a full-size disk that trades that feel for drive and damping.

OTE Fused Vaporlite 2.0 bushing

The fused bushing and canting layer between the boot and baseplate. It absorbs impact from landings and soaks up chatter — the "Shock-Absorbing Bushing Design" Union highlights. A feel feature, not a safety device.

S6 / S10 Duraflex ST chassis

Softer Duraflex ST nylon in the baseplate (S6) and highback (S10) than the stiffer chassis used on the all-mountain Force. It keeps the flex soft and forgiving (flex 5) for presses, butters and jibs rather than hard-charging response.

Forma Hybrid ankle strap w/ Memory Core

A molded ankle strap with a memory-foam core that wraps the boot for even, forgiving pressure and heel hold. A fit-and-feel feature, paired with the EXO Quick-Lock strap adjustment.

Features

  • ·TS 2.1 UltraGrip toe strap
  • ·EXO Quick-Lock strap adjustment
  • ·Aluminum S2 ratchets with steel base
  • ·Thermoformed EVA footbed
  • ·Grade 8.8 steel hardware

Strengths

  • +Union's own top score is a 9 for freestyle — a soft, park-first chassis.
  • +The fused Vaporlite bushing damps landings and chatter on hard snow.
  • +Reduced-footprint Mini Disk frees the board to flex for a surfy feel.
  • +Light at 1.75 kg a pair, under the men's Strata's 1.84.
  • +Soft, forgiving flex 5 with built-in canting and EXO Quick-Lock straps.

Best For

Intermediate to advanced women who ride park and freestyle first — presses, butters, jibs and jumps — and want a soft, forgiving flex over a stiff, driven one, on a board with 4x2 or Burton Channel inserts and a boot inside the women's S–L run.

Limitations

  • A freestyle specialist: 9 freestyle but only 7 all-mountain and 5 freeride.
  • Mini Disk mounts 4x2 and Channel only — not 4x4 or Burton 3D.
  • Women's size run stops at L — no XL for bigger boots.
  • Soft flex 5 gives up drive and edge hold at speed.
  • No independent 26/27 ride data yet — a catalog-and-spec read.

Not For

Riders who want a stiff, hard-charging all-mountain or freeride binding (the women's Juliet on a Camber Disk is the drive-focused pick), anyone mounting a 4x4-only board or a Burton 3D board (the Mini Disk will not fit), and riders whose boot is larger than the women's L run — there is no XL on the women's chart.

Common Questions

What is the difference between the Union Legacy and the men's Strata?
The Legacy is the women's Strata — the same freestyle-first identity (Mini Disk, soft flex, a 9 freestyle score) built lighter at 1.75 kg a pair against the men's 1.84. If you want that freestyle mark with a snappier, lighter feel, Union's Ultra Women's is the alternative at 1.64 kg a pair.
Will the Union Legacy fit my board?
The Mini Disk mounts on 4x2 and Burton Channel (EST) boards only. It does not fit a 4x4-only board or Burton's older 3D three-hole pattern — on those it will not physically mount. If you are unsure what your board uses, ask us and we will check.
What size Union Legacy should I order?
Size follows your boot, not your weight. Union's women's chart runs S for about US women's 4–6.5, M for 6.5–8.5 and L for 9–11. There is no XL on the women's chart. Tell us your boot and we will confirm the size.
Does the Legacy have a release like a ski binding?
No. A snowboard binding has no DIN and no release mechanism — it holds your boot to the board. Its specs describe feel and response, not protection.
