Union has brought the Contact back into its line after years away, and the binding's own scorecard frames it cleanly. Freestyle 7 is its top number; all-mountain and freeride both sit at 6. The flex reads 5 of 10 on Union's scale, soft rather than stiff. This is a park-first freestyle binding made for side hits, presses and butters, not for charging, and Union's own numbers place it as the affordable, playful pick in the brand's Mini Disk freestyle range — not an all-rounder, and not a premium park tool.
The surfy feel is built, not marketed. The Contact rides on Union's reduced-footprint Mini Disk, which keeps less of the baseplate pinned to the board than a full-size disk, so more of the deck flexes underfoot for a loose, skate-like feel. A soft S3 asymmetric Duraflex highback keeps the response gentle for tweaks and presses, and Union's Hot Press EVA damping — an EVA bushing and non-stick footbed between your boot and the base — cushions landings and chatter. Canting is built in, forward lean runs on a Cam-Lock adjuster, and the pair weighs 1.78 kg.
None of that makes it the sharpest tool in Union's freestyle range, and the catalog is honest about it. For the premium park feel, the Strata is Union's #1 men's park binding — 9/10 freestyle with a shock-absorbing OTE Fused Vaporlite bushing the Contact does not have, at $279.95 against the Contact's $229.95. The Ultra Men is the stiffer, more responsive freestyle sibling, also 9/10 freestyle. Step outside freestyle and the Force is the do-everything pick — flex 7, 9/10 all-mountain on a Camber Disk — while the Falcor is the freeride specialist at 10/10 freeride. The Contact is the soft, simple, cheaper surf option below all of them.
Two things to get right before you buy. First, mounting: the Mini Disk fits 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only. It is not a 4x4 or Burton 3D disk, so on a 4x4-only board or an old 3D three-hole board it physically will not mount — check what your board uses. Second, sizing follows your boot, not your weight; the Contact runs S, M and L, with no XL, topping out around US men's 13. We have not ridden the 26/27 Contact ourselves — this is read off Union's catalog — but the Contact is a long-running classic, and everything here is Union's own published spec.

Technology
Mini Disk
Union's reduced-footprint mounting disk, compatible with 4x2 and Burton Channel boards only. The smaller footprint keeps less of the baseplate pinned to the board, so more of the deck flexes underfoot — that is where the Contact's loose, surfy, skate-like feel comes from, the opposite bias of the drive-focused Camber Disk.
Hot Press EVA Damping (HP EVA)
An EVA bushing and non-stick EVA footbed between the boot and baseplate that soak up impact from landings and chatter for a softer, more forgiving ride. A feel and comfort feature, not a safety device.
Asymmetrical Freestyle Highback (S3 Asym Duraflex)
A soft, asymmetric Duraflex highback that contours to the leg and keeps the flex gentle and skate-like for tweaks, presses and butters rather than hard-charging response.
Exoframe 3.0 ankle strap + TS 2.1 UltraGrip toe strap
Union's molded ankle strap and grippy toe cap with EXO Quick-Lock adjustment, wrapping the boot for even, forgiving pressure. A fit and feel feature, not a safety device.
