If you've been curious about indoor ski or snowboard lessons in the Portland area, you're not alone. Our Beaverton facility uses a Maxxtracks revolving slope — a continuous moving surface that lets you ski or snowboard in place, indoors, year-round. Here's what the experience is actually like and whether it's right for you.

What Is a Revolving Slope?

Think of it as a treadmill for skiing and snowboarding. The surface is a textured, carpet-like material that moves under your feet while you stay in one spot. The speed and incline are adjustable, so your instructor can match the slope to your exact skill level — from absolute beginner to advanced carving drills.

The key difference from a mountain lesson: your instructor stands right next to you, within arm's reach, the entire time. There's no chasing you down a hill or shouting directions from 50 feet away. Every correction happens in real time.

Who Is It For?

We teach students as young as 3 years old. The machine works for complete beginners who've never touched snow, intermediate skiers working on technique, and even racers refining their edge angles. Lessons are one-on-one or small group, so the focus is always on you.

  • First-timers: Learn balance, stopping, and basic turns before ever hitting the mountain.
  • Intermediate riders: Work on parallel turns, carving, or switch riding in a controlled setting.
  • Kids: Short attention spans aren't a problem when the instructor is right there adjusting the machine.
  • Returning adults: Knock off the rust without wasting a lift ticket on a frustrating day.

What to Wear

You don't need full ski gear. The facility is climate-controlled, so dress in comfortable athletic clothing — leggings or pants you can move in, a long-sleeve shirt, and athletic socks that come above the ankle. Skip the jeans — they restrict movement and get uncomfortable in boots.

We provide all equipment: ski or snowboard boots, skis or a snowboard, and a helmet. Just show up ready to move.

How It Compares to Mountain Lessons

Mountain lessons have their place — nothing replaces real snow and real terrain. But indoor lessons have some clear advantages for learning fundamentals:

  • No lift lines or chairlift anxiety. You start skiing immediately.
  • Unlimited repetitions. The slope keeps moving — no hiking back up or waiting for a lift.
  • Instant feedback. Your instructor is close enough to physically guide your stance.
  • Weather-proof. Rain, heat, no snow — doesn't matter. You train year-round.
  • Lower time commitment. A 30-minute indoor session can deliver as many runs as a half-day on the mountain.

Lesson Types and Pricing

We offer private lessons, semi-private lessons (2 students), and small group sessions. Lesson lengths range from 30 minutes to a full hour. All equipment is included in the price — no hidden rental fees.

Is Indoor Training Worth It?

If you're a complete beginner, indoor lessons are one of the most efficient ways to learn. You'll build muscle memory for balance and turning without the distractions of cold, altitude, crowds, and unfamiliar terrain. Many of our students do 2-3 indoor sessions before their first mountain trip and feel genuinely confident on day one.
